Everything you need to know about KAPS

Many students are not aware about the KAPS exam. Some who are aware have a ton of doubts. I have written this (series of) article to help answer all your doubts & questions! So, let’s take a deep dive into your doubts.

Beginning with the most common question: What is KAPS Exam?

The full form of KAPS is Knowledge Assessment of Pharmaceutical Science. It is the gateway to become a registered pharmacist in Australia. 

If you have a bachelor’s degree (or master’s or PhD, but NOT diploma) in pharma and you want to become a practicing pharmacist in Australia, you first need to be a registered pharmacist with the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC). 

And to become a registered pharmacist, you need to appear and pass the KAPS exam. After passing this exam, you become eligible to find a pharmacist job and practice in Australia.

Who is eligible for the KAPS exam?  

Anyone who has a bachelors/masters/PhD degree in pharma and is a registered pharmacist in his/her country is eligible for the KAPS exam. Diploma holders are not eligible for the KAPS exam.

Is a 3rd year or a final year bachelors of pharmacy student eligible for the KAPS exam?

Although a 3rd year or a final year Bachelor of Pharmacy Student is not eligible for the KAPS exam, it is a good idea to start preparing early if you dream to move to Australia and build a career there. 

By the time you obtain your degree and complete your registration, you would be fully prepared for the exam. Right after college, you can leave for Australia & after working for a couple of years in Australia, you can even apply and get your PR.

At what point of time in the year does the KAPS exam happen? 

KAPS exam happens every 4-month, meaning the exam is conducted 3 times in a year – November, February, and July.

Do I need to go to Australia to appear in the exam? 

No! KAPS is an online exam and the major cities in your country have the KAPS exam center. 

For example – in India there are centers in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, New Delhi, and Chennai. In Pakistan, there is a center in Islamabad. In Saudi Arabia, there are centers in Riyadh, Jedda, and Dammam.
