No matter how learned or experienced you’re when it comes to finding a job, it is not going to be an easy task. It is rightly so for multiple reasons – you have your own expectations in terms of company, salary, travel time from where you live and whatnot; and companies have their own set of expectations from the candidates in terms of relevant experience, English fluency, salary, cultural fit, and many more.

In this article, we will focus on how to find a great job easily in Australia. Below are the 7 steps that will help you in your next job hunt –

Build a great resume- No matter how great you are or how superior your knowledge is, the first thing a recruiter is going to look at is your resume. Make sure that your resume is well crafted for the job you’re applying for. You should highlight relevant experience, your skills, and then your education. Also, if you’re an experienced person, your resume should be written in a reverse chronological order, meaning recent experience first. In short, your resume should make you look like the perfect candidate for the job!

Write a compelling cover letter – Not all openings ask for a cover-letter, some do. Whenever you’re asked to submit a cover-letter, you should give it enough time & attention and write a compelling cover-letter. Ideally, a cover letter should highlight what skills and experience you have that are aligned with the opening you’re applying for, and why you should be preferred over other candidates that have applied for the role. The length of your cover-letter should not be too short or too long; it should be well balanced. The idea prescribed length is 150 to 200 words long.

Apply on job portals – In the modern time, job platforms are among the best places to hunt for a job as you have multiple options to apply for. The top job platforms for pharmacists in Australia are Carecareers, CareerVitals, Healthtimes, etc. You can also head up to the mainstream job platforms such as Seek, Indeed Australia to hunt for a job.

Connect with HRs on LinkedIn – This is another not-so-popular, but great way to hunt for a job. If you already have a list of companies where you want to work, you can connect with hiring managers there and send your resume. There are, however, a couple of things that you want to keep in mind before you start reaching out

  1. Your LinkedIn profile should we updated, well written & a professional profile photo
  2. Send the connect request to the right person for a faster response
  3. Everytime you send a connect request, add a personalized note, telling why you want to connect.

Use your own network for referrals – Network is a very powerful thing; it can help you get a job, business deal, and many more! If you’re looking for a job, you should share your resume with –

  1. Your friends who are working in the pharma industry
  2. Your past colleague who moved to a different company
  3. Even your friends’ friends whom you met at some party or gathering

They should be more than happy to help. Usually most companies have attractive referral incentives that they give to their existing employees for referred hiring.

Take help from job consultancies – Well, this is another channel which is very effective. You can find local job consultancies in your city/area and take their help in finding a job. Job consultancies apparently are old-school but a pretty reliable way to land a job.

Prepare well for the interview – If you have come so far, then you already have made pretty good progress. Now all you need to do is give your best for the interview. While it is important that you answer well during the interview & impress the interviewer, only a good pre-interview preparation is going to help you make that happen. You should study about –

  1. The role you have applied for – you should read & understand the description thoroughly.
  2. The company you are interviewing for – you can do research about the company on LinkedIn, Glassdoor, the company’s website and its social media handles.
  3. Also, it’s a good idea to know the person who is interviewing you – it will only help if you do a bit of research about the person on LinkedIn. Who knows he turns out to be a friend with someone you already know!
