About the Scholarship – The Valerie Carr Award – The University of Hertfordshire offers a bursary for Therapeutic Radiography in 2024, allowing students to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Radiotherapy. The BSc (Hons) program offers a Therapeutic Radiography Bursary to eligible applicants. Individuals who have already completed a Therapeutic Radiotherapy course as a second-degree, or those working as support workers in radiotherapy or cancer services, or who has worked in social care and has volunteered or raised funds for a cancer charity/healthcare provider; or who was in social care at any point during childhood and has volunteered or raised funds for a cancer charity/healthcare provider. This scholarship is open to all nationals.

Eligibility Criteria – To be eligible for the scholarship a candidate must meet the following criteria:

  • Meets one of the following four ‘life experience’ criteria:
    1. For whom the course will be a second degree; OR
    2. Is working as a support worker in radiotherapy/cancer services; OR
    3. Has worked in social care and has volunteered or raised funds for a cancer charity/healthcare provider; OR
    4. Was in social care at any point during childhood and has volunteered or raised funds for a cancer charity/healthcare provider. 
  • Has a right to work in the UK and is resident in England or Wales.
  • Is not following an apprenticeship route.
  • Is not receiving a student loan or other sponsorship to cover the course fees for the programme in which they are enrolled. (England only).
  • Can demonstrate that their circumstances prevent them from being able, without support, to join the course.
  • Is aged 18 or over at the intended start date of the programme.

No of Scholarship –  5

Stipend – £6,000 annually plus coverage of tuition fees for a three-year undergraduate program.
